We just finished up another Skybacher Sports Camp. I brought back an old character from my days directing Youth Guidance Summer Camp. Cranky D. He was a big hit with all of the rowdy boys it gave them somebody to yell at. The camp itself was a real challenge. I am by no means an expert on football, and we didn’t have any girls sign up for this session, so that meant a lot of pushing, shoving, and short attention spans. It was still a lot of fun and the counselors did a great job. Next up basketball camp.
I just finished up another week of Skybacher Sports Camps. It was soccer this time and I dressed up like another character to start each morning. This week I was a Jamaican soccer player name Mobacca. The kids just stood in awe the first 2 days and didn’t really catch all of my Jamaican jokes. By day 3 they couldn’t get enough of Mobacca. What’s awesome is that the kids were never quite sure if it was really me. Remember when you were a kid and you believed anything was possible. I wish I had faith like that now. I guess I keep seeing a lot of reflection as I work with all these kids. Big Up Mon!!
Last night I watched my kids riding their scooters down a hill, and chasing after a bunny. Not too exciting to most people I’m sure. But for me it took me back to time when I was riding not a scooter but my big wheel down a hill, without a care in the world. No stress, no sense of time, no bills to pay. I miss that ol’ black & gold “big wheel” with a hawk on the side. I miss having no stress, sense of time, or bills to pay. I thank God for kids and the reminders they bring!!
Welcome to Skybacher’s Locker. It seems like everyone is blogging these days. I’ve actually been doing it since April of 2004, way before it was popular. Check the archives!! I’ve gotten away from it a bit, but today I was looking through pictures and realized how quickly time goes by. So I’ve wanted for a while to put my thoughts, art, dreams, opinions, sense of humor and reflections about family out there for whoever is interested. So here it is!! Skybacher’s Locker all artwork is mine so don’t use it without my permission. All dreams were given to me by God. And all glory goes to Him!!
Hard to believe how quickly time goes by. Today Tyler turned 5. He wanted the new Superman suit soooooo bad! We made him wait a little bit for it but we couldn’t take the disappointment on his face anymore. He hasn’t take the thing off all day.
It seems like we were just at Geneva wondering when we would be blessed to have our first child. Now he’s 5 and he thinks he’s Superman! God is good!
All else is well. We’re getting ready for a new school year, and soccer is starting. Things with the ministry have gone very well this summer! But summer is quickly coming to a close.
We just got back from a wonderful time in Presque Isle. One of the best vacations that I can remember, and we needed it as our family had been wiped out for an entire month with the stomach flu. Everyone is doing fine now thankfully. The previous week I was at a camp in West Virginia running the recreation and games for a few churches. It felt so good to be back at camp. A little earlier in the summer we had what we called an Extreme Teen Week which was like a week of Vacation Bible School for the teens. It was so much fun! Our theme was Deal or No Deal and the kids had a great time playing and learning more about God’s Word. A few of them even memorized the verse in Proverbs 23:23 “Buy the truth and don’t sell it, also gain wisdom, discipline, and understanding.”
Other than that I’ve been working on some medical illustrations, and starting up soccer again. School is just around the corner. Yikes!!!!
