The other day while doing some yard work I got in a wrestling match with a thorn bush and one thorn pierced my head. After removing it and some swearing under my breath. I thought of Jesus and the crown of thorns that they made him wear.

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped him in the face. John 19:1

It struck me that in a crown of thorns – Jesus took our mental battles to the cross. Head pain makes it hard to focus on anything other then that pain it’s excruiating. He took our mental battles! Not only that but as they mocked Him they were breaking down the picture of who His heavenly father had saw him and sent him to be. The King of Kings! Have you ever had anyone mocking the picture of who God has shown you to be? He took that and those lies to the cross as well.

One final thing their wouldn’t even be thorns if it wasn’t for our original sin. It talks about in Genesis how thorns are a result of the curse.

It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field. Genesis 3:18

Jesus took our sin to the cross. Jesus took our broken pictures of who people label and mock us to the cross. Jesus took our mental battles to the cross! Thank you Jesus.
