Final thoughts on the World Cup

It started out slow but there were some incredible games. Netherlands vs Uruguay was amazing.  The final was disappointing to me because I had picked Holland to win it all, and it seemed as if they were the refs choice, but oh well they played very well.  USA is not even close.  We were in a weak group and struggled to get out.  We gave up early goals in every game.  Why are we starting games trying to be tactical?  Just play with athleticism, skill, and aggression that we do once we are down in the game!!  Italy, and France didn’t even belong in the World Cup.  Ivory Coast one of my favorites because of Drogba got a raw deal, playing the number 1 and number 3 ranked teams first.    Ok this is all old news anyway but I had fun during the World Cup making a whole series of cartoons.  So here is the World Cup Series 1 in all of it’s glory!  Now bring on the Premier League!

USA vs. England in just four days!! Let’s go USA. Tim Howard will probably be getting a work out, so hopefully he is up to the task!

These might not be ranked in the order that most people might make them but here are the players I’m looking forward to watching the most at this summer’s World Cup.

1. Didier Drogba – He is a monster! Strong in the air.  Sets others up, and has decent speed.  Drogs will have at least 3 goals and continue his goal scoring form from the Barclay’s Premier League.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo – He’s a little too pretty for my taste, but his foot skills are incredibly quick.
3. Lionel Messi – He was voted the best player in the world for a reason but the only there may only be one thing to watch with the train wreck that is Argentina
4. Tim Howard – I imagine the USA keeper will be seeing plenty of work.
5. Michael Essien – He’s been out of action for a while it will be interesting to see what he can do for Ghana
6. Fernando Torres – He may win the Golden Boot playing for high powered Spain
7. Landon Donovan – There’s gotta be someone to cheer for from the U.S.
8. Kaka – highly skilled and highly amazing! Hope the injuries don’t hinder him
9. Arjen Robben – his strikes in the Champions League were killer, look for one in the World Cup!
10. Giuseppe Rossi – not even a starter probably, but could have been playing for the U.S. Let’s see what we missed out on
11. Frank Ribery – seems to be a mess at times but not when he is playing soccer.

Sorry Wayne Rooney I just don’t expect much but  I would love to see England do well after the U.S. beats them (unlikely).  Honorable Mention to Miroslav Klose I imagine he’ll find a way to score again. Who are your players you can’t wait to watch.  Feel free to leave a comment.

Ok, so there’s maybe 15-20 people who even check this site out on a daily basis, but I’ve got a lot of creative ideas and no where to get rid of em.  I sleep better each night if my mind is clear, that means even from creative things.  I work as a middle school substitute teacher, coach soccer, have 4 kids, run my own non-profit organization and do many various other jobs, but when I’m doing those things or have a tiny bit of free time, I’m always drawing on Illustrator or coming up with devotional thoughts out of the stories of my everyday life.  I also love watching sports and have drawn cartoons for as long as I can remember.  So I’ve set a goal for myself to try an put up some interesting posts and see what kind of traffic I can generate over the next several months.  Tomorrow I will begin my own 2010 World Cup analysis based on EA Sports Fifa World Cup game, internet research, and my own personal knowledge of soccer.  I will also continue to post cartoon illustrations of the Top 50 players in the upcoming World Cup. I’m sure they won’t blow anyone away but I make no claims to be a graphic designer or illustrator just something I do on the side for fun.  Ok so there’s the goal! Hopefully I’ll see ya around!
